This Note introduces you to so-called free energy sources and renewable energy sources. You will learn about active solar heating systems, solar cooling, photovoltaic electricity generation, solar thermal power generation, wind power, hydropower, geothermal steam and hot water sources, waste product combustion, and wood and biomass fuels.

For each of these, you will learn the basic equipment and system configurations, typical applications, development status, economics, energy density and energy availability, environmental issues, and its relationship to conventional energy sources for backup.
