1.7 Combustion Gas Heat Transfer and Heat Recovery

This part of the Energy Efficiency Manual presents energy conservation measures capture the maximum amount of heat from combustion gases. With many boilers, energy is wasted in the form of heat that escapes with the flue gases. You can recover the energy in hot boiler flue gas by installing an economizer. Learn how to select conventional boiler economizers, condensing economizers, combustion air preheaters, and water spray heat recovery.

Older firetube boilers may have poor heat transfer, allowing combustion heat to escape from the boiler. In such boilers, see how installing turbulators may improve efficiency.
