9.7 Fixture Maintenance and Marking
This part of the Energy Efficiency Manual shows how to maintain the efficiency of your lighting systems over the long term. These are essential energy conservation measures for most kinds of light fixtures.
Cleaning light fixtures and lamps is an important routine activity. Do this as a group activity throughout your facility, following the guidelines offered here. Also, replace darkened light fixture diffusers, which waste a large fraction of lighting energy.
In many types of incandescent, fluorescent, and HID light fixtures, it is easy to install the wrong types of lamps. The lamps may produce light, but they may also be operating very inefficiently. Or, energy saving lamps may be replaced by conventional lamps. This is likely to occur unless fixtures or luminaires are marked with the appropriate type of lamp. The best methods are explained here.
